Privacy Policy

DRAFT — not yet approved

This privacy policy is a working draft for Memmerse's private alpha and is awaiting review by Memmerse and its lawyer. It will change before public launch.

Memmerse is operated by Celetris LLC ("we", "us"). Anyone can read the public Vietnamese dictionary and Library without an account. The learning notebook is a private, invite-only alpha. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect in each case, why, and how long we keep it.

What we collect

  • Reading the public site — no account and no tracking. Like any website, our servers see your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. We use the IP address briefly in memory to limit abusive traffic, and our hosting keeps short-lived server logs for security and debugging.
  • Invite requests — see below.
  • Account info — your email address and authentication credentials, handled by our authentication provider (Supabase). We never see your raw password.
  • Learning data — the vocabulary, notes, contexts and study progress you create in the notebook.
  • Usage & technical data — for signed-in use: IP address, device and browser type, log and error reports, session and authentication tokens, timestamps, and records of API requests.
  • Contact preference — whether you opted in to receive product updates by email.

Invite requests

If you request an invite, we store your email address, the optional note about what you're learning, and when you asked. We don't store your IP address with it, and no analytics or advertising tool sees the form.

  • Why: to decide whom to invite during the alpha and to email you about your invitation. Nothing else; it is not a newsletter list.
  • How long: a request becomes due for deletion 30 days after we first invite you (inviting you again or declining later doesn't change that date), or 12 months after our last contact with you, whichever comes first. Asking again counts as new contact. We delete due requests once a month, so each one is gone within a month of its date: at most about two months after an invitation, or 13 months after our last contact.
  • Who sees it: only Memmerse administrators. It is stored in our database (Neon) on our hosting (Amazon Web Services).
  • Deleting it sooner: email privacy@memmerse.com from the address you used and we'll remove it.

We don't send a confirmation email when you submit the form.

How we use it

  • To operate the app and save your learning progress.
  • To contact you about an invite request, your invitation and your account.
  • To keep the service working, debug problems, and protect against abuse.
  • To send product updates and news only if you opted in. You can ask us to stop at any time.

AI features

Some notebook features use AI. They are available only to signed-in, invited users and are never triggered by reading the public site. If you use them, the content you submit (such as words, notes, prompts or lessons) is sent to an AI provider to generate a response. Please don't put anything into those features that you wouldn't want processed by an AI provider.

Service providers

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the providers that run Memmerse for us, and where required by law:

  • Amazon Web Services — hosting.
  • Neon — database.
  • Supabase — sign-in and account authentication.
  • Resend — sending account and invitation emails.
  • OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter and Google — AI and text-to-speech features, for signed-in users who use them.

Cookies and local storage

We use only what the site needs to work: authentication cookies, set when you log in, that keep you signed in; and a theme preference (light or dark) saved in your browser's local storage. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party trackers, which is why there is no cookie banner. If we ever add analytics, we will update this policy first.

Where your data is processed

Memmerse is operated from the United States. Your data may be processed and stored in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, so your information may be transferred outside your home country.

Data retention

We keep account and learning data while your account is active or as needed to operate the service, and invite requests as described above. You can ask us to delete your data at any time. We remove it from live systems within a reasonable time; copies may persist in backups and logs for a limited period, and we may retain certain records where needed for security, legal or operational reasons.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Signed-in users can export their notebook from the app. For anything else, contact us (below).

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, and we try to collect only what we need. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

The notebook alpha is intended for adults 18 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Any future classroom or student use will be governed by separate school or guardian terms.

Marketing emails

If you opt in, we may email you product updates and news. Marketing emails include a way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time.

Contractors and staff

If you access Memmerse as a contractor or staff member, additional confidentiality, security and data-processing terms may apply to you under a separate agreement.

Alpha caveat

The notebook is pre-release software. Data may be reset or migrated as the product evolves. Please don't store anything you can't afford to lose.
